When I first began breeding horses with my dad, I thought to myself, every breeder needs to have his own “Farm Name” so I set out to try and come up with something. I believe I was 15 at the time. After much deliberation, I came up with Blue Fire Acres and the first 3 horses that I registered, I registered with the “BFA” prefix. I’m not sure how I landed on Blue Fire Acres because it really doesn’t have any association with my occupation etc. I think I chose the name because it had a nice ring to it.
After I went through a brief lull of breeding horses, I rebranded my “Farm” as Black Gum Farms. In the front yard of my home is a gigantic tree called a Blackgum Tree. This unique tree is quite old and a rarity in our area of Northern Indiana so it made sense to use that as my brand.
In writing this blog, it gives you an explanation on those first 3 horses that have a BFA prefix. Thanks for reading!
